Elegant Black and White Wedding in Charlotte | Kaylyn & Will
Kaylyn and Will held a special place in our hearts because they were already a part of the McLean Events family. We had the honor of working with Kaylyn’s older sister Alexandria a couple of years ago at The Fearrington, so we already had a close bond with this sweet family.
Erin, the owner of McLean Events, was so excited when she received a call from the mother of the bride, Pam, saying that Kaylyn was about to get engaged and that we should get ready to start planning again!
A little back story about this couple - Kaylyn grew up talking about meeting a handsome English man who would sweep her off her feet with his dashing good looks and European charm. Guess what? She did indeed met her Prince Charming -- Will Heaney at a bar in Raleigh. The coolest part of the story is that neither of them was supposed to be at that bar that evening. I mean...it’s really meant to be!
As we began to plan their magical wedding day, it was immediately apparent that they both had impeccable taste - which wasn’t a surprise since we knew this must run in her family.
Needless to say, Kaylyn’s custom couture lace gown steals the show! How beautiful and special is this dress?! Everything in her design centered around the show-stopping details that made all of the ladies in the room jealous!
Both of them also had their hearts set on a formal affair with luxurious florals, soft greys, silvers, crisp whites, and tasteful elements of pure glamour.
We chose the property at Ballantyne because it literally embodies all of those things in one space. The ceremony was held in a tented space on the lawn overlooking the manicured 18th green of the championship golf course and dinner and dancing in the newly refreshed ballroom.
To complement the space and Kaylyn’s taste, her florals were a mix of orchids, lush peonies, garden roses, hydrangea, all in soft whites and barely blush.
Crystal chandeliers lined the aisle where Kaylyn walked by herself (because the gown was just that good!!) to the front of the altar where her parents proceeded to join her and give her hand over to her new husband. Over the top of their vows hung a draw-dropping array of crystals and orchids. The design perfectly complemented the invitations that were created to set the tone for the weekend.
Kaylyn and Will said their vows and were quite possibly the most gorgeous couple we have ever seen. It was perfect.
From the ceremony, guests were ushered into the hotel with champagne in hand - once in the foyer, they were greeted with the most lovely display of florals cascading all the way down the grand staircase and framing the mirrored seating charts that were displayed at the bottom. Guests mingled and chatted to the sound of a harpist that played beautifully classic pieces to their enjoyment.
The ballroom doors opened right on time and there was so much to take in! From the mirrored tables to the silvery splendor of the chargers and china pattern. No detail was overlooked! We chose a custom dance floor applique that was pulled directly from the border design of K+W’s invitations. The whole ballroom had been floored with the perfect grey flooring to blend in with the overall design. We love to mix and match table settings to create interest in the space - so for this event, we did two different versions of chairs and two versions of chargers + place settings. It was spectacular!
When everyone came back into the ballroom the stage had switch to “I Love This Band” who kicked off the party and put on an awesome performance until it was time for Randy B to take back over for the afterparty!
This wedding was definitely one for the ages - we had so much fun planning it with the new Mr. + Mrs. Heaney!
